Event description

April 26 — 9:30am-11:am Pacific Time

Continuing with Elena's Essential Components Series . . . (If you missed part one, please email andrea@allegoryediting.com for access to Components of a Strong Opening)

After hooking a reader with an opening, writers have to keep those readers through the most challenging section — the middle. There are reasons why we hear expressions like "saggy middles" and "slogging through the middle," as this section is where the heaviest lifting happens. We must build on the promises set up in the opening, hit reader expectations, raise actions all the way to the climax, and show growth and change in our characters.

A strong middle requires certain components, including character arcs, building obstacles and stakes, and a solid climax. Whether you're writing a short story, novella, or a full-length book, the more successful the middle, the more likely it is to sell to agents, publishers, and ultimately the public.

Join Senior Editor Elena Hartwell Taylor for this fun and informative workshop to keep you on track for a solid manuscript ready to query or publish.
