Claves del Pasado: Archivo Comunitario

El Sábado 14 de Septiembre, los invitamos a compartir sus recuerdos con nosotros en La Casa de La Clinica del Pueblo en Mount Pleasant durante un evento público y gratuito para compartir historias con comida y música.

On Saturday, September 14, share your memories with us at La Casa at the Clinica del Pueblo in Mount Pleasant during this free, public, story-telling event with food and music. ENGLISH TRANSLATION AVAILABLE BELOW.   

Escondidos en una caja de zapatos debajo de la cama hay una carta de amores adolescentes, un diario de viaje, un poster o pancarta de tus días de activismo en las calles. Recuerdos a través de estos objetos nos conectan al pasado y enseñan a las generaciones del futuro cómo era vivir una vida "en aquel entonces". 

El DC History Center desea ayudar a preservar estos objetos preciosos a través de nuestro programa de archivo impulsado por nuestra comunidad. Primero conservamos los materiales escaneandolos. Luego, si así lo desean, incluimos los escaneos en nuestras colecciones; donde desde los niños de la escuela hasta los historiadores profesionales podrán aprender sobre el pasado de la ciudad e investigar y escribir sus historias. Nuestras colecciones actualmente no representan a las comunidades Latinas de la ciudad, pero usted nos puede ayudar a cambiar eso.

Les invitamos a que traigan de 1-3 artículos (específicamente fotografías, cartas, otros documentos de 8.5 x 11” o más pequeños) que representen tu propia historia o la de tu comunidad. Se les pedirá que den información sobre las fotografías y los objetos, por ejemplo cuando y donde se crearon y a quien representan.

Juntos, colaboraremos para contar estas historias y crear un registro histórico más completo con las experiencias y perspectivas Latin@s representadas como parte del tejido de nuestra ciudad.

LO QUE OBTIENEN LOS COLABORADORES LATINO/A/X: 

• Escaneos de alta resolución de sus colecciones.
• Derechos reservados y propiedad mantenida de sus artículos. 
• Inclusión de sus materiales en las colecciones del DC History Center, registrado como parte de la historia Latina de DC. (opcional)

Los escaneos se realizarán por orden de llegada. El espacio puede ser limitado. Se va a ofrecer música, comida y conversación mientras esperan su turno. Los escaneos se pueden realizar en inglés y español.

LO QUE OBTIENE EL DC HISTORY CENTER: 

• La oportunidad de escuchar sus historias.
• Ayudar a preservar sus recuerdos para las generaciones futuras.

La registración para este evento es gratuita para todos los participantes.   ENGLISH TRANSLATION   

Tucked away in a shoebox under the bed are a letter from your high school sweetheart, a travel diary, a poster from your activist days out in the streets. Physical memories like these connect us to the past and teach future generations what life was like “back then.” 

The DC History Center wants to help you protect these precious objects through our community-driven, archiving program. First we preserve the materials via scanning. Then, if you choose to, we include the scans in our collections, where Washingtonians from school children to professional historians learn about the city’s past and research and write its history. Our collections don’t currently represent the city’s Latino/a/x communities, but you can help change that. 

We invite you to bring 1-3 items (photographs, letters, other documents, 8.5x11” or smaller) that represent your own or your community's history. You’ll be asked to identify when it was created and who is represented. 

Together, we collaborate to tell these stories and create a more complete historical record with Latino/a/x lived experiences and perspectives represented as part of our city’s fabric.

WHAT LATINO/A/X CONTRIBUTORS GET

• High resolution scans of your collections.
• Retained rights and ownership of your materials.
• Included in the DC History Center’s collections, recorded as part of DC’s Latinx history. (optional)

Scanning is first come, first served. Space may be limited. Music, food, and conversation are provided while you wait for your turn. Scanning facilitation is English and Spanish.

Registration for this event is free for all attendees. Pre-registration for the event is encouraged to help us place our catering order, but is not required. Capacity will fluctuate throughout the day.
