Led by expert presenter and founder of Arludo Michael Kasumovic, and two Arludo Ambassadors, the course will delve into the following key areas of focus:

  • How to create an effective science experiment
  • How to run successful digital science experiments in the classroom
  • How to collect and utilise data from experiments to enhance learning outcomes

Experience the power of game-based learning first hand as you participate in exciting experiments using the diverse games from the Arludo Suite. This unique opportunity is perfect for teachers who are looking to elevate their teaching practice and engage students in new and innovative ways.

Presenter Bio - Associate Professor Michael Kasumovic

Michael is an Associate Professor in Evolutionary Biology at UNSW Sydney and the Founder of Arludo.

He is an award-winning researcher, science communicator and educator, with a long track record working with students at the university, secondary and primary levels.

He is a sought-after speaker on the use of mobile technologies, especially mobile games, in bringing science education to life in a far more accessible, inclusive and engaging manner.

Originally, Michael’s research into human behaviour resulted in the development of video games for research purposes. He was exploring how our evolutionary history can explain gender differences in the video games we choose to play, and how this affects how we perceive ourselves and behave. This further led to an interest in teaching using video games.

This research ultimately gave rise to Arludo in 2015, which has since developed 30 science-based mobile games for educational purposes, with over 300,000 downloads and 10 million scientific data points collected through student gameplay.

Through Arludo, his mission is to increase interest in STEM topics and improve scientific thinking for students of all genders, ages, and socioeconomic levels.

Michael has been the recipient of numerous research and innovative business grants, including most recently as part of the Emerging Priorities Program by the Australian Department of Education. This grant has provided the opportunity for Arludo to launch nationally and benefit students in classrooms across the country as of 2023, with close teacher collaboration being a crucial component of our strategy for next year and beyond.

Michael holds a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology (University of Toronto, 2007) a M.Sc. Ecology (Queen’s University, 2002) and a B.Sc. Biology (McMaster University, 2000).
