Art exhibition Rhonda Dee at The Fenwick Gallery, curated by Kristia Moises
Event description
The curatorial project will exhibit the artwork by renowned artist Rhonda Dee, at The Fenwick Gallery, curated by Kristia Moises.
Rhonda Dee’s work is concerned with transformation, hybridity and psychology. Drawing from folktales, migrant stories and sci-fi themes, she re-imagines the human/animal/plant story as a non-linear transformational journey. Fluid paint flows suggest a variety of possibilities within each image and the possibility of freely associating between image and meaning as figures simultaneously both emerge and recede. The works are comprised of multiple layers of acrylic on archival polymer films (traditionally used in cartography; map making) charting the movement between one identity and another.
Rhonda Dee is a Sydney-based multidisciplinary artist originally from the border lands of Texas and Mexico. She has held solo exhibitions at Manly Art Gallery & Museum, Hurstville Gallery & Museum, Macquarie University Art Gallery and has exhibited in the art biennale Cementa22. She has been featured in Artist Profile magazine, Art Spiel NY, and many other publications. In addition to her gallery practice, Rhonda works as a creativity specialist within universities, businesses and disadvantaged communities. Her work is featured in permanent collections including Long Island University, NY, the Museu Brasileiro da Escultura, Sao Paulo Brazil, Macquarie University Art Gallery, the Australia China Arts Foundation, and private collections.
