Art Exhibition “The Morning After” by Maya Barnstone
Event description
Maya Barnstone is an American born (1998) painter from Washington State, She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts at the National Art School, where she majored in painting.
Maya paints self-portraits and scenes of social events, indoor and outdoor spaces- mostly from her imagination. She enjoys quirky, inaccurate perspectives and playing with light and shadow. In her practice she uses a thick application of acrylic paint on handmade timber boards; piling layer after layer of acrylic paint until reaching a three-dimensional result.
The self-portraits portray themes of personal idealisation, often painting two versions of herself depicted in the painting.
The social gathering scenes unfold tea parties, house parties, picnics, greenhouses. Painting from her imagination creates an endless scope of ideas about the world she has created.
