Lutruwita/Tasmania has the potential to be a leader in climate action, we are currently NetZero but a recent Independent Review of Tasmania’s Climate Act found that if we don’t act, we will lose our NetZero status before 2030. Meanwhile, communities are facing serious impacts from climate change and don’t receive enough support to prepare for them. This year, we experienced many of these impacts including heatwaves, an algal bloom, devastating bushfires near St Helens and flooding in the northeast; and that is why TCT’s climate campaigners, Ruby & Jo are fighting for greater climate action for our community Our TasAct4Climate campaign calling for a stronger Climate Act has resulted in two Open Letters with a crosscut of community, business, social orgs and everyday Tasmanians signing on. The consistent lobbying efforts from TCT and other local community groups have resulted in parliamentary motions on climate, and the state government providing a formal response to the Act review (which they may never have done) and committing to do more on climate adaptation. The fight for this future is not over yet of course. Help us advocate for a climate-positive future in Lutruwita/Tasmania by making a tax-deductible donation to the TCT.
