Artful Watching: Night Tide
Event description
The final Artful Watching screening of the calendar year will follow our monthly gathering - a Happy Hour Pot Luck - You can join us at 5:00 for sips and snacks, or just for this under-rated and frequently over-looked classic, “Night Tide.”
"It's 1961 in Santa Monica. A side-show mermaid/siren and a sailor fall in love on the pier." Join us for director Curtis Harrington’s story of young and dishy Dennis Hopper as sailor-on-leave Johnny Drake, who falls in love with mermaid/siren, Mora (Linda Lawson.) The story unfolds with touches of horror, camp, grand guignol, tarot, implied witchcraft and a good deal of the Santa Monica Pier merry-go-round we all love. Historian Jim Harris (author of “Santa Monica Pier: America’s Last Great Pleasure Pier” will join us to share conversational bon mot! *Spoiler Alert: Tarot cards welcome for impromptu post-screening community readings to honor Madame Romanovitch’s (played by Marjorie Eaton) enlightening scene with Johnny.
