Artificial Intelligence & Creativity: Is Chat GPT taking over?
15 years ago, the German government launched an initiative called Industry 4.0. Their goal was to highlight the technical prowess of their industry, focusing on value-adding robotics, big data, AI and automation. This started a conversation about the Future of Work: if robots take over many jobs previously done by humans, what would we do? We consoled ourselves by pointing out that the one thing we do that AI cannot is creativity! The human jobs of the future, therefore, would be those jobs involving open-ended problems, uncertainty, novelty, risk-taking and artistry. Then, in about 2022, Generative AI appeared. Immediately, people started generating pictures, stories and other apparently “creative” outputs. The future of work also started to look very grim. If robots can do creativity as well, then where does that leave us? In this presentation, Dr Cropley will discuss Artificial Intelligence and Creativity. Can Generative AI really produce creativity? How does it compare to human creative ability? Most of all, what are the implications for the future of work? Artificial Intelligence & Creativity: Is Chat GPT taking over?
