Creative and Innovative Use of Accessibility in the Arts is a 90 minute panel conversation on how traditional modes of disability access can be used as innovative and creative compositional tools and how this shift in thinking is giving rise to an entirely new artistic voice.
Join Brand X Accessibility Coordinator Dean Nash, Artist Madeleine Little, Producer Michael Wrenn, and Audio Describer Emma Bedford in this relaxed, 90 minute virtual panel discussion on accessibility and creativity from the perspective of the disabled artist, the art business professional and the access provider. An insightful discussion between creatives doing amazing innovative things in access from three entirely different perspectives.

If you work in access or you work in art or simply enjoy art, this is for you.

ABOUT THE PANELISTS...
DEAN NASH:
Dean Nash is a Composer, Actor, Songwriter and emerging practitioner of Creative Access. His recent solo work and flagship CA project “Dean, Don’t Dance” (Kitchen sink festival 2024) came together after years of research into the still young methodology. Dean studied a bachelor of music at WSU (2011) is an alumni of the 2021 AFTRS talent camp for emerging writers, and was invited to participate in Hayes Theatre Companies 2024 Showlab for MT writers and composers. Dean was one of 10 writer/composers for “The Breaths in between - Concept musical” (2021) developed by Eleven O’clock theatre company. As an actor Dean has worked extensively across the mediums of theatre and film.

EMMA BEDFORD:
Emma Bedford has been a professional audio describer since 2011. She trained in Adelaide and taught Audio Description for Access2Arts nationally 2019 - 2022, prior to moving to Sydney. Emma has described a diverse range of indoor and outdoor events, highlights include Sydney New Year’s Eve Fireworks 2014 and 2015 live broadcast with 2RPH, Mountain with the Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2017, Ralph Heimans Portraiture. Power. Influence in 2024 for the National Portrait Gallery, Are We Not Drawn Onward into a New Era for Sydney Festival 2024 and Dark Noon, also for Sydney Festival in 2025. Art is for everyone. Emma enjoys collaborating on complex, challenging projects working at the forefront of innovation and multi-disciplinary practice.

MADDIE LITTLE:
Madeleine (Maddie) Little (she/her) is a performer, theatre maker, playwright, access consultant for the performing arts and leader in the disability arts sector, based in Brisbane. She is a proud disabled artist who enjoys working in both disability-led and safe ally-led creative environments. Madeleine has received awards Early Career Artist Award – Australia Council’s National Arts and Disability Awards (2022), National Leadership Award – Arts Access Australia (2019), Stella Young Award – Arts Access Victoria (2018), 40 Under 40 Awards Queensland (Weekend Edition, InQueensland). Madeleine is currently Undercover Artist Festival Director at Access Arts.
MICHAEL WRENN:
Michael Wrenn (Invisible Republic) has been in the film industry for 30+ years working in exhibition, distribution, production, sales and acquisitions in both the UK, France and Australasia. Since 2000 he has settled in Australia and New Zealand having run development for the New Zealand Film Commission; managed Australasian acquisitions for international sales companies Celluloid Dreams and Maximum Films; created distribution outfit Curious Distribution and worked with Arclight Films on all aspects of development and production.
In the early 2010s, Michael ventured into production starting with co-producing/partnering roles on Being Venice and Errors of the Human Body, Executive Producer on Kim Mordaunt’s The Rocket (Berlin 2013 Best First Feature, Crystal Bear and Amnesty Prize), Ivan Sen’s Cannes selected Mystery Road (2014), Gillian Armstrong’s docu-drama Women He’s Undressed (2016) on Australian Academy Award Winner, Orry Kelly and, in 2017, Priscilla Cameron’s The Butterfly Tree (MIFF, TIFF) amongst others.
He was also Producer on the US adaptation of Ron Rash’s The World Made Straight, shot in North Carolina with an international cast including Noah Wyle, Jeremy Irvine, Minka Kelly, Haley Joel Osment, Steve Earle, Adelaide Clemens and directed by David Burris (Producer/Director of TV series Survivor) released in the US in 2015. Other recent productions include Three Summers by writer/director Ben Elton (Blackadder, The Young Ones, Queen: We Will Rock You) and French co-production Slam. Macario de Souza’s 6 Festivals was shot at Australia’s leading music festivals with contemporary Australia bands and artists through COVID (2020-2021) selling to Paramount+ for the world. Latest feature, Audrey, directed by Natalie Bailey and starring Jackie van Beek and Hannah Diviney launched at SxSW 2024 is now on Netflix ANZ and releasing in US and UK. He currently co-producting the official Australian-Italian co-pro documentary, Sand Roads, and Irish-Australian co-production Chasing Millions.
