    Event description

    What is an artist book?

An artist book is a medium of artistic expression that uses the form or function of the “book” as inspiration. Artist books embrace a range of approaches often experimenting with different materials to offer new ideas and interpretations of the world.

    Workshop with Avril Makula

Tuesday 12 November, 1.30 - 3.30pm at Mona Vale Creative Space - Gallery (above the Library)

Most people are familiar with the book in its codex form. However, the world of books is vast and varied, embracing a cornucopia of experimental and sculptural book structures.

Join artist Avril Makula and discover how simple but effective folding and stitching techniques can be used to make notebooks, journals and artists’ books.

    Limited spaces, bookings essential.

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

All materials are provided. You are welcome to bring along any additional art materials from your own collection.

    Fully accessible space.

Avril Makula is a book artist and book designer. She make books by hand as works of art to exhibit, teaches bookbinding and book arts, and continues to accept book design commissions.

Avril prints and hand-binds books, restructures discarded books into new forms, and uses text snippets from old books as collage elements. Her book works are in major public libraries and private collections both in Australia and internationally.
