Join Hyphenated Biennial artist Talia Smith and Incinerator Gallery curator Jake Treacy for an online discussion of Talia’s project Maybe this is letting go. These photographic works explore the emotional connection to familial histories and ancestral homelands when you are physically removed. These works seek to visual vā – a Sāmoan term that can be loosely translated to describe a space in between where past, present and future coexist to facilitate both personal and collective wellbeing.
Maybe this is letting go is currently showing at Incinerator Gallery billboard, and The Substation as part of Hyphenated Biennial until 9 April 2022.
Curated by Hyphenated Projects, the inaugural Hyphenated Biennial presents ten new commissions by First Nations and Asian diasporic artists. Hyphenated Biennial is a multi-venue exhibition that has supported a collective of artists in Melbourne’s west throughout the turbulent years of 2020 and 2021.
