Event description

13 weeks of exploring your creativity & engaging with your inner muse through Julia Cameron’s famous book The Artist’s Way.

Led by creative coach and ULL Member Shanon Emerson, these weekly all-gender meetups will be held in SE Portland, with the option to Zoom in as well.

Whether you seek deeper access to creative inspiration, discovery of your inner artist, or consistent community among other creatives, we’re merging all three in this exploratory 13-week book club led by creative coach and ULL Member, Shanon Emerson.

We know, that’s a lot of weeks! Before you close your tab, let us share that this series is not a job or class about ticking things off a to do list. This is a supportive space to explore and give attention to your life, and YOUR creative journey. We’re hosting this throughout the season of spring to provide space for you to bloom and grow with your inner creative muse.

Get ready to explore and tap into your creativity like never before.

Because when you commit to spending time with your own creative muse, magic happens.

How it’ll work

We’ll meet every Tuesday evening for 13 weeks (6:30-8:30 pm pst) to chat about our experiences with the theme of that week’s chapter of The Artist’s Way. We’ll begin with “Week 0” on 3/22, so you don’t need to worry about reading anything before coming to our first meetup of the series. On Week 1 we’ll discuss Week 1 in the book, on Week 2 we’ll discuss Week 2, and so on. And if you can’t join us in person in SE Portland, you can join via Zoom call!

A note on Autonomy

While we’ll dive into juicy discussion each week, your journey with the book, including it’s prompts and tasks, are your own. As our facilitator Shanon says, “The weekly tasks in The Artist’s Way are powerful - push yourself past that resistance. Resistance is your first clue that’s where you should be going.”

What to bring
  • Your Artist’s Way book
  • Your Journal or something to write with
  • Something to share for sips or bites (Doesn't need to be anything fancy. We’re keeping this book club series free to the community, so this is our exchange!)

About The Artist’s Way

“The Artist's Way is the seminal book on the subject of creativity. An international bestseller, millions of readers have found it to be an invaluable guide to living the artist's life. Still as vital today-or perhaps even more so-than it was when it was first published one decade ago, it is a powerfully provocative and inspiring work. In a new introduction to the book, Julia Cameron reflects upon the impact of The Artist's Way and describes the work she has done during the last decade and the new insights into the creative process that she has gained. Updated and expanded, this anniversary edition reframes The Artist's Way for a new century.”
