Artist Talk - Joan Miró: Master of Freedom and Simplicity
Event description
For 2025, our first members gathering and artist talk will be: Joan Miró - Master of Freedom and Simplicity, presented by Anna Gonzalez.
The Catalan artist Joan Miró is regarded as one of the greats of the 20th century. His art is built from a solid attachment to his homeland and is admired for its radical innovations developed in the context of the first avant-garde movements, especially Dadaism and Surrealism.
Born in Barcelona, Anna Gonzalez lives and works in Brisbane. Anna suffered the brutalities of Spain's dictatorship but refuses to lead a bitter life (Richard Fidler interviewed her on ABC's 'Conversations'). She has exhibited nationally and internationally and has been a finalist in many major prizes. In 2006, the Mater Private Hospital commissioned her to produce 13 paintings for their maternity ward. Her works are held in private collections in Australia, Spain and Switzerland.
