Artist Talk Series #12 - Daniel Argyle

Daniel Argyle lives and works in Northam, Western Australia. He completed a Master of Fine Arts at Hunter College, New York, USA, 2001 and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) at Curtin University, Perth, 1995.

Argyle works across a variety of media, drawing upon the history of abstraction and the aesthetics of popular culture. This often includes the use of, or references to, mass-produced forms and processes. Different kinds of labour employed in different bodies of work have direct bearing upon the meanings of the works. For Argyle the making of the work and the context of its display is inextricable from the work’s meaning.

Argyle has held exhibitions in Australia and internationally, including Plastic •  Concrete, Disneyland Paris, Perth, 2023; Pinched Rectangles, Peloton, Sydney, 2011; Remix, Art Gallery of Western Australia, 2011; My Australia, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, Taiwan, 2011; Flat-Pack/Axe-Cut/Exterior, White Street Project, Frankston, Australia, 2009; NEW08, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne, 2008; Australia - Contemporary Non-Objective Art, Bonn, Würzburg and Osnabrück, Germany, 2007-08; Parlour Projects, Brooklyn, New York, 2000.

Tickets are free for City of Belmont residents (Ascot, Belmont, Cloverdale, Kewdale, Redcliffe and Rivervale), free for students, and $10 for non-residents. Students may be required to present a current valid student ID.
