Join exhibiting Logos / Λογότυπα artist Leonard Brown for an insightful artist talk titled 'Praying with Your Eyes Open / Modernity Versus Transcendence' about the ikon in the Orthodox Church.

"The ikon is not one aspect of teaching of the Orthodox Church, the ikon is the complete teaching, a Theology in colour; it is true that no Liturgical service may be performed without an ikon being present, no ikon no service. Critics of the Byzantine ikon level the view of it being ‘static,' by comparison with the West’s dynamic visual art history evolution, accompanied by ever fresh interpretation, fresh invention, of new ways of seeing. Now here lies the watershed, the Orthodox Church’s affirmation, ‘this is what we have always believed’ is telling, a sentiment which became the postscript to every Ecumenical Council of the Church (there have been 7 to date)." - Leonard Brown
