As We Age: A Conversation
About the event
As We Age: A Conversation
What does it mean to age with openness, curiosity, and intention?
Join Marilyn McEntyre and Anne Hawkins, authors of As We Age: A Conversation, for a thoughtful and engaging conversation about the experience of growing older.
Drawing from their book and their own reflections, Marilyn and Anne invite us to look beyond aging simply as a season of loss or limitation and consider the challenges, unexpected pleasures, and possibilities that emerge along the way.
We’ll also explore letter writing as a simple but meaningful practice for continuing these conversations with one another and within our communities.
Whether you are navigating your own wisdom years or simply beginning to think more intentionally about aging, this free online gathering offers an opportunity to reflect, listen, and join the conversation.

About Forest Dwelling
This event is offered FREE of charge by the Forest Dwelling Program: Spirituality for Our Wisdom Years (FDP) at the Oblate School of Theology in partnership with the Department of Renewal and Outreach.
The Forest Dwelling Program was founded in 2019 by Fr. Ron Rolheiser, OMI, and his dedicated team in response to the growing need for a deeper spirituality of aging. Rooted in their vision, this two-year transformational certificate program invites participants to journey into the heart of the aging process—not simply to grow older, but to become wise elders.
Through spiritual formation, reflection, and community, participants learn to embrace the realities of aging with grace, an open heart, and a deeper awareness of God's presence. The program nurtures a life of wisdom, hope, and spiritual fruitfulness, empowering participants to leave a lasting legacy of faith for future generations.

Marilyn is a core faculty member for the Forest Dwelling Program: Spirituality for Our Wisdom Years at Oblate School of Theology. Two books that draw on her work as hospice volunteer are A Faithful Farewell: Living Your Last Chapter with Love, and A Long Letting Go: Meditations on Losing Someone You Love. In her book, Patient Poets: Illness from Inside Out, Marilyn offers deep reflections on the poetry of those who are living with illness and disability. Other books include Where the Eye Alights: Phrases for the Forty Days of Lent; When Poets Pray; and Make a List: How a Simple Practice Can Change your Life and Open your Heart.

Anne Hunsaker Hawkins
Anne Hunsaker Hawkins, retired professor, author, speaker and amateur cellist, served for many years as Professor of Humanities at Penn State College of Medicine. Her published works include Archetypes of Conversion: The Spiritual Autobiographies of Augustine, Bunyan, and Merton; Reconstructing Illness, Studies in Pathography; and A Small Good Thing: Stories of Children with HIV and Those Who Care for Them. A life-changing experience for Anne was Forest Dwellers which her colleague and friend, Marilyn McEntyre, encouraged her to join as a participant. Having collaborated on several academic publications, it is not surprising that they should use their immersion in Forest Dwellers to write a new book - As We Age: A Conversation.
