As We See It is a Storytelling and Spoken Word evening in the Hills — warm, funny, moving and occasionally surprising. Original works from the local community. Poetry, storytelling, stand-up — any form goes, as long as it's honest and it's yours.
This isn't a competition. No judges, no scores, no right answers. Just people with a fascinating aspect of their life, and the nerve to share it with a supportive and curious audience.
Share your perspective. Don't seek to persuade. Every perspective is welcome, but opinions should stay online.
Held at the newly revamped Visy Dior Hotel in Norwest. Free car parking and 10% discounts on food and drink for ticket holders from the bar and restaurant.
Impromptu and open mic opportunities for brave audience members on the night.

- What's the process for being a performer?
We don't think of you as a performer. We think of you as a PERSPECTIVE.
And we welcome all PERSPECTIVES.
As We See It is a curated night. Purchase the Speaker Contribution and a member of the team will be in touch to ensure you're comfortable with the format, and we're comfortable with your performance.
This isn't about gatekeeping — it's about balance. We want the night to be a genuine mix of voices, formats, ages and perspectives.
If over subscribed, we will let you know what the next steps are, we always keep an audience spot open.
- Are the audience expected to get up on stage?
Of course not! But... if you want to..... :P
We often see a perspective shared on stage that will spark a desire to contribute from the audience. So we make space for that via our "short shares" after each speaker, and an opportunity to take one of our open mic spots if your story is bursting out and needs its own 6 minute slot immediately.
Audience members do get early notification of speaking spots at the next event.
- What kind of topics can we talk about?
Some simple rules:
Share your perspective. Don't seek to persuade.
Strong perspectives and real stories are absolutely welcome. Gratuitous content or anything designed to divide — save it for the internet.
Original works only.
Your own words, your own story, your own point of view. It doesn't have to be a new work, but it does have to be yours.
Types of performances:
With the above in mind, we are open to all different types of forms. Poetry, Storytelling, Stand up comedy, Acoustic or Acapella style song where the focus is the words and story.
Timing:
6 minutes
We will have timing lights to keep you on track, and then blast an airhorn if you don't sound like you're wrapping up. Respect for timing demonstrates respect for the audience.
- Ticketing and Venue
Our location for the night is the Visy Dior hotel - 1 Columbia Court in Norwest easily accessible just off Windsor Road.
Note that the venue is licensed but children under 18 are welcome if accompanied by an adult. While themes can be heavier from time to time, all stories will be appropriate for an audience > 15+.
Food and drink will be will be available at the bar and restaurant with a 10% discount available for those with a ticket.
Complimentary onsite parking is available with our ticket on the night.
The number of tickets available are capped to facilitate a good energy, and an intimate experience across the whole night.
