ASBN wetland tour: Pakapakanthi /Victoria Park
Event description
Water is a precious and finite resource, especially in South Australia, the driest state in the driest nation. This new 3.2 hectare wetland was designed to maximise this precious resource, supporting biodiversity, amenity and providing ecosystem resilience in multiple forms:
- 100,000 new native plants will help cool the space, provide habitat and ecosystem services.
- The design filters and cleans stormwater whilst also providing flood protection for significant events.
- The existing butterfly conservation area was preserved and extensive walking & viewing platforms support community health & wellbeing.
Our guide Rob Allison from DesignFlow is highly skilled in urban stormwater management, integrating and delivering water sensitive urban design in residential and prominent public spaces. His experience includes urban development and redevelopment projects at many scales, wetland and Bioretention designs, stormwater harvesting, water policy development, and research and publication on stormwater treatment devices.
Our tour will take us around the site as we discuss the features in an open conversation.
Please meet us at the Beaumont road carpark (corner of East/ South tce) at 5pm sharp, for a tour of the site and it's features.
You are welcome to stay on after the 45-minute tour for random networking over a drink or maybe a meal at a nearby venue to be decided on the day.
