ASCENT opens with the lively rhythms of Smetana’s Dance of the Comedians, followed by the elegance of Mozart’s Symphony No. 7. Schubert’s Overture in the Italian Style builds from a measured opening to an energetic finish, bringing the first half to a dramatic close.
The second half opens with Twilight Over Tekapo, written especially for CORO by Rotorua-born New Zealand composer Christopher Everest, who is now based in Sydney. Van Halen Hits follows with the energy of rock, before Rossano Galante’s Nostalgia offers a moment of reflection and his Mt. Everest brings the concert to a sweeping close.
