ASEAN Artistic Collaboration Showcase

This event has passed Get Tickets

Event description

Join us at one of Melbourne’s most iconic and spectacular venues, The Capitol, for a cultural collaborations showcase offering insights into the rich and diverse partnerships between Australia and ASEAN nations.

The evening will explore the benefits of collaborating within our region, the things we can do better together than alone and offer insights into the frameworks that exist to enter or initiate new creative collaborations.

Alice Pung OAM will deliver the evening’s keynote address. Alice is an award-winning author, journalist, lawyer and educator from Melbourne with Cambodian heritage. She is also an Adjunct Professor at RMIT University and in 2022, she delivered the State of the Writing Nation Address, and in the same year was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her services to literature.

The keynote will be followed by an excerpt of 'Memories from Suspended Places', a synchronised duet dance, co-presented by Lucy Guerin Inc and and EkosDance Company, choreographed and performed by Georgia Rudd (Australia) and Riyo Tulus Pernando (Indonesia). The performance delves into the profound language of the body, unravelling the threads that bind us and bridging the gap between cultures.

The evening will conclude with a panel discussion exploring the benefits of artistic cross-cultural collaboration, with practical insights into the frameworks and pathways that exist to generate creative cooperation. Filipino-Australian Artist Andy Butler, Arts and Cultural Leader Amrit Gill and Chamber Made Executive Producer Kylie McRae will discuss the benefits of artistic cross-cultural collaboration with practical insights into the frameworks and pathways that exist to generate creative cooperation, with Vietnamese-Australian Advisor Nina McLean.
