Event description

THIRD RUN CINEMA is an intermittent screening series curated by Hannah de Feyter. It prioritises programming experimental, arthouse and classic world films that are otherwise unavailable to view or stream (legally) in Australia, and screening them in a cozy, accessible & social context.

For our third season in collaboration with the wonderful Elsie’s Film House, we are screening several incredible classics from Central Asia + the Caucasus.

ASHIK KERIB / აშიკ-ქერიბი

(1988) dir. Sergei Parajanov & Dodo Abashidze

76 minutes, Unclassified 15+

Georgian & Azerbaijani with English subtitles

Ashik Kerib is heartbroken, and as a result, he kind of just wants to wander around and play the guitar. Join him on his mystical journey! You might be familiar with codirector Sergei Parajanov's truly iconic imagery from the more famous The Color of Pomegranates, but he's at his absolute best in this collaboration with Dodo Abashidze. Accompanied by a soundtrack of gorgeous Azerbaijani and Turkish folk music, this is poetic, vibes-based cinema at its finest.

6.30pm - Doors open

7pm - Screening starts with intro
