Asia New Zealand Foundation's 2026 New Zealanders’ Perceptions of Asia and Asian Peoples report

Please join us for a presentation of the Asia New Zealand Foundation's 2026 New Zealanders’ Perceptions of Asia and Asian Peoples report.

Now in its 29th year, the annual Perceptions of Asia survey tracks New Zealanders’ awareness, knowledge and interest in Asia, offering important insights into how views are shifting amid a changing regional and global environment.

This event will include an overview of the report’s key findings by the Foundation's director of research, Dr Julia Macdonald, followed by a Q&A session.

The survey covers a range of questions, including:

• Amid growing global disorder, which countries do New Zealanders view as our closest friends and biggest threats?

• How are New Zealanders’ travel patterns mirroring changing perceptions?

• From misinformation to cyberattacks and climate change, what global issues are New Zealanders most worried about?

• How are New Zealanders expecting developments in Asia to impact New Zealand’s future?

• What are New Zealanders’ top Asia-related interests?
