Event description

My Sassy Girl (2001) is a romantic comedy that tells the quirky love story of mild mannered college student Kyun-woo and a bold and sassy woman, known as ‘The Girl’. Based on a series of blogposts by Kim Ho-Sik, the film follows the rollercoaster of misadventures, comedic situations and vulnerability as we follow Kyun-woo’s growing affection for The Girl.

One of the first films of the Korean Wave in the early 2000s, My Sassy Girl is directed by Kwak Jae-yong and stars Cha Tae-hyun (The Producers, Scandal Makers) and Jun Ji-hyun (My Love From Another Star, The Thieves) and has received numerous remakes across Asia, Europe and the US.

Made in the early 2000’s, My Sassy Girl is a classic, beloved by many for it’s witty dialogue, slapstick humour and incredibly chemistry of Cha Tae-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun. While some of the jokes may have aged poorly over the past twenty years, My Sassy Girl is a cornerstone of new Korean New Wave cinema, and will be shown on the big screen for the first time in Melbourne this November!
