'Ask a Curator' Panel Discussion

Artists and the community are invited to attend 'Ask a Curator,' an in-person panel discussion about curatorial practice, gallery protocols, exhibitions, installs, commissions, and more.

Hosted in the Platform Arts Performance Space, the panel includes three highly experienced curators across diverse exhibition formats: proud Gunditjmara Keerray Woorroong woman, Tarryn Love (YOOKAPA); Ren Inei (Boom Gallery, Geelong); and Simon Lawrie (Lorne Sculpture Biennale), who will be zooming in from Helsinki.

This event is co-presented with Making Change and forms part of the After Walter Hopps open-call exhibition at Platform Arts.

About After Walter Hopps:

Running from AUG 12—SEP 20, this open-call community exhibition invites artists from Geelong, Surf Coast, Bellarine, and other G21 regions to bring in new or existing artworks to exhibit on a first-come, first-served basis. The overall aim is to fill the gallery from floor to ceiling, wall to wall, in a show that takes shape both cumulatively and expansively. Platform Arts is accepting artwork submissions from AUG 12—AUG 31. The exhibition will open to the public from SEP 04—SEP 20, and finish with a closing party on SEP 20.

This exhibition is inspired by Walter Hopps' 36 Hours project held at MOTA (Museum of Temporary Art), Washington, USA in 1978. A renowned non-conformist, maverick curator, and transcender of boundaries, Walter Hopps devised this seminal project as an invitation for any artist to take their work to the gallery without any chance of rejection or censorship. After Walter Hopps aims at removing the restrictions enforced in an institutional gallery setting—opening it up for civic reclamation through showcasing the works of all who dare to call themselves an artist, irrespective of profile or reputation. This open exhibition draws artists of all ages, ranging from emerging to established, and it's a great opportunity to support a regional arts community while purchasing art at accessible prices.
