Join us for an evening with two of the most respected legal minds in Australia’s history, the Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG and Distinguished Professor Larissa Behrendt AO.
As a former Justice of the High Court of Australia, Justice Kirby has spent more than five decades at the forefront of Australian law and law reform.
Our incredible Chair, Professor Behrendt, one of Australia’s leading Indigenous legal scholars and advocates, will host the evening and ask Justice Kirby your burning questions.
Nothing is off limits: the law, the dissents that made headlines, life on the bench, the cases that changed him, and what he really thinks about the state of justice today.

Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG
The Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG is one of Australia’s most distinguished jurists, with a career spanning more than five decades. A former Justice of the High Court of Australia, President of the NSW Court of Appeal and inaugural Chair of the Australian Law Reform Commission, Justice Kirby has made a significant contribution to Australian law and law reform. Throughout his career, he has been a strong advocate for justice, equality and the protection of human rights both in Australia and internationally. His work has been recognised with numerous honours, including the Australian Human Rights Medal, the UNESCO Prize for Human Rights Education, the Gruber Justice Prize, the inaugural Australian Privacy Medal and many honorary doctorates, including from the University of Technology Sydney.
Distinguished Professor Larissa Behrendt AO
Larissa Behrendt is a Euahleyai and Gamillaroi woman, award-winning author and filmmaker, lawyer, and Distinguished Professor and Laureate Fellow at the Jumbunna Institute at the University of Technology Sydney. She is the author of the novels Home, Legacy and After Story. Her contributions have been recognised with numerous awards, including the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, a Victorian Premier’s Literary Award and the NAIDOC Person of the Year award. In 2011, she was named NSW Australian of the Year, and in 2020 she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for her contributions to Indigenous education, the law and the arts. Larissa is the host of Speaking Out on ABC Radio, where she explores issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The Dr Chau Chak Wing Building is part of UTS’ city campus and is located at UTS Building 8, 14–28 Ultimo Road, Ultimo NSW 2007.
