Astronomy Night - Marsden Park

Join an Astrophysicist for a guided Astronomy night in Marsden Park.

Using an astronomy laser pointer, we will trace constellations and explore the science and stories behind the stars!. This is a beginner-friendly astronomy session suitable for families, curious adults, and anyone who has ever looked up and wondered what they were seeing.

Topics we will cover:

• Brightest stars in the night sky

• Lifecycle of stars, colours of stars and their connection with life on earth.

• Exploding Stars, Supernovae

• Constellation stories.

• Stellar Navigation using the Southern Cross (How ancient people navigated using the stars.

• Planets, Zodiacs and Ecliptic

• Blackholes (Einsteins General Relativity and the science behind Interstellar)

Followed by Telescope viewing to see Planets, Stars, Clusters, Moon and any other objects of your choice!

In case of bad weather: we will reschedule to another night. Since weather changes quite fast, the call will be made on the day and you will be informed by 4pm if the event is going ahead.

Please note this event is usually priced at $60 per person, but is being offered for free as part of an education initiative by the Baitul Huda Mosque in Marsden Park for the local community. The event will be held on the Cricket grounds of the mosque.
