ABOUT THE SHOW
Atalanta: The Long Shot is a boundary-breaking new queer musical that resurrects the long-forgotten mythology of history’s original Amazon and unsung heroine of Ancient Greece. Raised by a bear in the Arcadian forest after being abandoned as an infant because of her sex, Atalanta (“equal in weight”) is the perfect combination of wild femininity and animal instinct. On her eighteenth birthday and prompted by the patronage of her lover, the goddess Artemis, she returns to Grecian society on a quest to discover the life that should have been hers. An exquisite hunter and runner, Atalanta is a staggering anomaly within her own culture and is rudely awakened to the harsh reality of life in a gendered world. But that won’t stop her from making her mark alongside the best heroes of her time.
Will she claim the life she lost or will she fail at being human, after all?

ABOUT THE WRITERS
Lucier&Rose are a genre-bending, queer musical theatre writing duo who have been collaborating on intensely sapphic work for more than a decade, focusing on “restorative narratives” that explore the hidden stories we long to remember. Following a successful production of Xena: Warrior Musical 2023 [Theatre Barn Records feat. Jenn Colella, L Morgan Lee, Taylor Iman Jones, Wren Rivera], their newest full-length work, Atalanta: The Long Shot, will premiere this November at Culture Lab LIC as part of New Works Lab. Atalanta tells the story of the only non-male hero of Ancient Greek Mythology—an embodiment of the original Amazon archetype who strains against the confines of her imposed gender. Lucier&Rose have been included in multiple concerts for rising queer composers [Maestra's First Takes Series 2024; Heart & Music at 54 Below 2025, reimagined works such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream 2019 with Hip to Hip Theater, and were commissioned to compose After The Show for Ring of Keys’ Queering the Canon at Joe’s Pub 2022, reprised at Ring of Keys: Queering the Canon Gala at Joe’s Pub 2025 [co-produced live album].
