Event description

For those who seek adventure, inspiration, and an omni wellness activity for yourself, friends, or the whole family.

Not your typical race. Think of it like a Scavenger Hunt + Murder Mystery + Escape Room games rolled into one epic omni adventure. Not easy, but boy is it fun, healthy, and rewarding!

Distance: 6 miles*

Time: 2 hours*

For All 12+: Sprint, jog, walk. All are welcome. Under 12 must be with an adult.

Atheon Murder Case #0313: A Pumpkin Monkin Murder

Quest #0313 takes you on an epic journey through the remarkable gardens of Stanford University and downtown Palo Alto, CA. Filled with inspiration, glory, and wonder.. Your task is simple: Solve the unsolved orange sticky messy case of who slashed Pumpkin Monkin? To do so, you will need to locate the evidence & suspects using the map provided and decipher the puzzle solving who did it, with what, and where? Along the way take in the picturesque trails, gardens, historic buildings, and trees on campus and downtown. But don't take too long, you got a crime to solve.

Game Play

A map and worksheet is provided at start

At the start line, the ATHEON host will provide you with your quest packet including a map, worksheet, and pen. The map will provide you with all the locations of where you can find all the evidence in the mystery.

Locate the evidence found on Signs

At each location on the map are clearly marked ATHEON signs, which will provide you with evidence, suspects, and clues in helping you solve the mystery. How much evidence you collect is up to you.

Decipher the evidence and solve the crime

Using logic, skill, and deduction – solve the mystery. Once you solved it come back to the start line and hand in your solution to the ATHEON host. If you got it right, your time stops. If wrong, you will have to continue.

Game Details

Single or Team: Play yourself, as a couple, or with a group as a team

Team Size: No limit, but everyone in your group must purchase a ticket or get the group team ticket with a max number of people indicated. If you have more, buy multiple accordingly.

Age: Game play is suitable for age 12+, any kids on your team under 12 play for free and must be accompanied by an adult

You must be at least 16 to play by yourself.

Flex Start Time: Check-in with the host and begin quest anytime between 7:30 – 11:30 am on day of event

Pace: Sprint, run, jog, or walk at desired pace, but no assisted help (unless pre-defined for medical reasons.)

Distance: 6 miles (or more depending on hunt orienteering)

Duration: 1 – 3 hours

No Devices: As mentioned above, this is an intentional device free zone to inspire you to use your own legs and wits. You are not allowed to use any technology assistance of any sort unless it’s an emergency or to track your steps for health/training purposes. 

Start/End: The start and end of the quest is the same. The Atheon host will provide you with everything you need to begin. Once completed you come back and hand in your mystery solution to the host.

Worth Mentioning

Benefits: This game is jammed packed with a plethora of valuable benefits like: map reading, orienteering, find-ability, endurance, speed, problem solving, note taking, puzzle solving, memory, team work, and much more. Can’t emphasize enough how rewarding this activity is but with that said…  

1st Time: Like all games, don’t expect to be amazing the first time. 

Distance: Time & distance provided is a rough estimate as it depends on how you or your team is at navigating the map, finding the evidence/suspects and deciphering the mystery. Thus the exact distance you do will be up to you or your team. Feel free to come back to the start to see the ATHEON host as desired.

Fun: Almost every player who has participated in this race has said that time and distance was irrelevant as they are so distracted having fun navigating and solving the mystery that they don’t even realize how far or long it has been.

Strategy: Strategy is valuable. There are many layers to this game quest that allow for a multitude of different types of strategies. Making it all that much more fun and the desire to come back for more.
