Event description

At 843 hectares, this is one of Auckland Council’s largest regional parks. Located on the Okahukura Peninsula, overlooking the Kaipara Harbour, the park was gifted by the Chatelanat family in 2006 and is still a working farm. This park offers panoramic views, native bush and has well defined walking areas, plus a large variety of native bird species.

The walk will consist of the Oruawharo River Trail (7.8km) which explores the whole park and features glorious views over the Kaipara Harbour. We will see the Heretoka pā plus the woodshed overlooking Solomons Bay before stopping for morning tea. Then watch out for Solomons pā and Oweka Tapu Pou  before lunch at a beautiful scenic spot. The Kauri Point track (3.7km) will offer further sights over the Kaipara.

This area has a long history, extending back at least six centuries, and includes archaeological sites and stories told in carvings at sacred sites. The park is grand, beautiful and historically significant, and this is just the opportunity you need to come and visit.
