Tim Baker, author of Patting the Shark and experienced commissioning editor, wrote of Ailsa Piper that her ‘superpower is noticing, paying meticulous attention to the exquisite minutiae of daily life – the gifted writer’s greatest tool.’Â
Mary Oliver, the great American poet, wrote that ‘Attention is the beginning of devotion.’
In this workshop, Ailsa Piper invites participants to expand their writerly observational skills, and to explore the selection - and the magnification - of details that can become markers for character and place and even plot. Whether you work in prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, drama or lyrics, the right detail in the right place can do more work, and carry more weight, than pages of exposition or dialogue. Come with pen, paper and wide-open eyes.
This workshop is a part of the Byron Writers Festival 2024 and is designed as an 18+ event. Any questions please get in touch with the office on 02 6685 1155 or info@byronwritersfestival.com
