Description

Attribution Protocol Consultation Webinars.

Join the conversation. Help shape the future of environmental attribution.

Accounting for Nature (AfN) invites you to participate in a consultation webinar on the draft Attribution Protocol, released for public consultation following its announcement at COP17 in Armenia.

Developed in collaboration with the University of Oxford, with contributions from The Biodiversity Consultancy and informed by a series of dedicated stakeholder workshops, the draft aims to establish a scientifically robust and practical approach to environmental attribution.

As demand for credible nature-related information and biodiversity units grows, understanding how environmental outcomes can be attributed to actions is increasingly important. The proposed Protocol seeks to clarify what can reasonably be attributed, the evidence needed to support attribution claims, and how uncertainty, other contributing factors and limitations should be acknowledged.

About the webinar

The webinar will introduce the proposed Attribution Protocol, explain its intended application within the Accounting for Nature® Framework, and outline how it may support the integrity of environmental reporting and the ongoing development of nature unit issuance, such as the NaturePlus® Standard Version 2 under AfN administration.

The session will cover:

  • Why attribution matters: The role of credible attribution in environmental accounting and emerging nature markets.

  • The proposed approach: An overview of the draft Protocol, its scope and key principles.

  • Evidence and scientific integrity: How evidence, uncertainty and other contributing factors are considered.

  • Practical application: Potential implications for Environmental Account Holders, environmental practitioners, auditors and users of nature-related information.

  • Have your say: Engage in feedback and how to provide detailed submissions to help inform the final Protocol.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions and share initial perspectives. Participants are encouraged to review the Consultation Paper and draft Protocol before attending.
