Auckland Archi-Tours: NZICC

New Zealand’s main international hosting venue demanded a rethink of what makes a uniquely New Zealand experience. Going beyond the natural landscape, the design draws inspiration from an open, friendly, and proudly Indigenous culture to set a new benchmark in hospitality.

Occupying half a city block, the project is fundamentally urban. The masterplan proposed a new activated laneway to complete the fourth ‘boundary’. The flow of pedestrians through and around this large site is the central driver of the project’s planning and form. As well as an exemplary visitor experience, the convention centre offers a valuable amenity for the wider city. It revitalises this vehicle-dominated area and creates much needed east-west pedestrian connections.

This tour offers the opportunity to meet with the Architects who helped make this all happen and get some unique insights into how this exciting new piece of civic infrastructure serves and delights visitors and delegates.
