Auckland Archi-Tours: St Patricks's Chapel

St Patrick's Chapel is the spiritual heart of Dilworth School, offering students and the wider community a sacred space for reflection, connection, and spiritual growth, while immersed in nature. Dilworth envisioned a space that would evoke spiritual awe while honouring the school's architectural heritage and responding to the practical needs of a growing student body.

The design response is poetic and evocative, working sympathetically within the existing campus while introducing a distinct new presence. Collaboration with Reverend Greg Worboys shaped the spatial planning from arrival through to ceremonial procession. Departing from a traditional long, narrow nave, the main worship hall adopts a contemporary approach to congregation with a wide and inclusive arrangement, enhancing connection and community. The defining architectural gesture – folded ceilings – rises to form a majestic triple-height volume that draws the eye towards the sanctuary and trees beyond.
