    Event description

Located on the lower slopes of Maungawhau (Mt Eden), Whare Tane is an intriguing piece of 1920’s architectural heritage.

Architect John Anderson was clearly influenced by Frank Lloyd Wrights Prairie style houses of the early 20th century and Whare Tane is also notable for the use of indigenous stone and Maori-influenced motifs. The house has a category 1 listing in the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Toanga List/Rārangi Kōrero.

Meet at 1.50 outside 26 Clive Road, Mount Eden. Tom Locke from the local branch and owner Kay Wooff will meet you there.

Part of Aotearoa Festival of Architecture 2024 and Auckland Archi-tours.
