Auckland Yom HaShoah Commemoration
Event description
Yom HaShoah 2025: '80 Years, We Remember'
The Holocaust Centre of New Zealand invites the Auckland Jewish Community to attend this year's Yom HaShoah ceremony. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the liberation of death camps, and the end of the Holocaust (Shoah).
For centuries, Jewish communities worldwide faced persecution and discrimination. The Holocaust was the devastating result of this hatred, resulting in the murder of six million Jews.
Rising antisemitism worldwide underscores the importance of Holocaust education and remembrance. This year's theme, '80 Years, We Remember,' focuses on preserving the voices of survivors, victims, liberators, partisans, and resistance fighters from Jewish communities. We will carry their stories forward like a torch, ensuring their memories and experiences are never forgotten.
