NSW: Audio Storytelling & Podcasting Intro Workshop

Audio is one of the most intimate storytelling mediums there is. A voice in your ear, a story well told, a question that makes someone pause and really think.

This workshop gives you the skills to make that happen.

Whether you're planning your first podcast episode, want to document stories from your community, or just want to understand what makes audio so powerful, you'll leave with practical tools and real hands-on experience.

No prior experience needed. Bring your smartphone and your stories.

• The art of listening: how to ask questions that make people open up

• Story structure: what makes audio compelling, emotional, and memorable

• Recording great quality audio using just your smartphone or other tools at your disposal

• Editing basics using free, accessible tools like Audacity

Jayde Harding is a filmmaker, impact producer and facilitator who has spent more than a decade chasing great stories across just about every format — on screen, on air and in people’s headphones.

Her documentary work explores issues including climate, gender and young people, and has screened on ABC, Network 10 and at festivals including Berlinale and imagineNATIVE. Her short documentary Inconceivable, which Jayde directed and produced, follows three families grappling with whether to have children in the face of the climate crisis. The 16-minute film went on to screen on ABC/iView and at Australian film festivals.

As an impact producer, Jayde has worked across projects including Rachel’s Farm, Regenerating Australia and Unanswered Calls, developing strategies, partnerships and campaigns designed to help stories reach the people who need to see them — and create change beyond the screen.

She has also taught more than 1,000 people how to find, shape and share their own stories. At the heart of Jayde’s work is a love of understanding audiences, uncovering the real story and helping people tell it in a way that moves people.

Natasha Akib is a digital producer who believes in individuals and communities telling their own stories. She specialises in using the skills of film production, media and marketing for purpose-driven organisations. She is responsible for developing, producing and facilitating Stories for Impact – Digital Storytellers’ educational workshops, tools and resources. Stories for Impact has supported thousands of storytellers worldwide to find, make, edit and share their own video stories using smartphones and affordable technology for fundraising, advocacy, community engagement and more.
