CIMF has a long and proud history of commissioning new music and has an impressive record in commissioning diverse voices, including Indigenous, female and emerging composers.

Today we are raising money for a very special project by the remarkable Hollis Taylor, inspired by the the pied butcherbird, described as 'the true magic flute' for the astonishing complexity and beauty of its song.  In this major world premiere, Taylor transforms decades of fieldwork into a 55-minute musical encounter between birds and humans.

Written especially for acclaimed flautist Sally Walker, this work moves between flute, piccolo, alto and contrabass flute, and is joined by a massed ensemble of local and international community wind players.
