Australia becoming... Conversations with Mary Graham
Event description
As fine minds across the globe ponder how fractured Western governance might deal with catastrophic change, we must remember that First Nations peoples have maintained a stable, relational and ecologically benign society on this continent for over 65,000 years.
We are hugely privileged that Aboriginal knowledge holders like Aunty Doctor Mary Graham are ready to show us how this was done, and can be done here again.
In these monthly Conversations, Aunty Mary sets out the sophisticated concepts that allowed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to construct this enduring socio-political order, all built on the ethos of responsibility to Country.
“Country creates belonging through a custodial relationship — through stewardship. It generates connection and responsibility and invites humility. In its simplest form, stewardship might be defined simply as caring for something outside of and larger than oneself, with the thin layer of the earth’s crust that sustains us all an especially expansive and rewarding candidate for care.”
These Conversations with Aunty Mary are lively, refreshing and provocative and we’d love it if you would join us.
You’ll find us at BrisWest, 132 Latrobe Terrace Paddington. Come along at 12:30 for a cup of coffee or tea, before a 1:00 pm start, a break for afternoon tea and a group discussion until we close at 4:00 pm.
There is plenty of on-street parking nearby.
Hope to see you there!
