Description

AICOMOS Victoria July Professional Development Event

Join us on Friday 17 July for a professional development event jointly hosted by Royal Botanic Gardens and Heritage Victoria.

In a walking tour and talk, ICOMOS member Jess Hood (Principal Heritage Permits at Heritage Victoria) will be in conversation with Phil Bowyer-Smyth (Project Manager) and Andrew Laidlaw (Landscape Architect) from Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. The tour will feature recently completed heritage projects, new works and landscape succession projects at the state heritage listed Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne.

Key discussion points will include:
- RBGV’s approach to built and landscape heritage
- The approvals process with Heritage Victoria
- The balance in maintaining a heritage landscape with new garden projects within the context of climate change

The tour will encompass the new City Gate; conservation works to the Temple of the winds; relocation projects for the Lakeview Resthouse and Northern Border Arbour; landscape succession and contemporary design in the Arid Garden, Volcano, Tecoma Pavilion and Drylands.

At the conclusion of the tour the group will gather for informal drinks at a nearby location to be confirmed.
