    About this Masterclass:

With the Australian Federal Election coming up within a matter of months, this is a timely masterclass for those who are keen to understand how the voting system actually works so that no one will be able to sway you with misinformation when you cast your vote.

Did you know that over 90% of candidates in Australia are elected based on the allocation of preferences. This is such an important information and yet many voters still don't understand how it all works. This masterclass will provide the clarity you need.

Is it true that unless you vote for one of the major parties, your vote is wasted?

What is above the line and below the line voting? Which is a better way to vote? Is there even such a thing as a better way to vote?

What about those "How to Vote" cards? Do they matter?

During our masterclass, we will help answer all your questions and bust some myths while at it.

    Who this masterclass is for:

    - Australian voters who want to get clarity on the voting system in time for the upcoming election

    - Political campaigners and candidates who want to better their understanding of the voting system so they can use this information to their advantage in their campaigns

    - Non-citizens who want to get a head start in understanding the Australian political system

    Our Guest Speaker: Therese Faulkner

Therese has worked in senior international development roles within the public and private sectors, including in DFAT and AusAID. During her time, she conducted numerous seminars on the Australian political system to foreign government officials and post-graduate students, and having been an election candidate, and now President of a political party, she has a wealth of information that attendees can tap into during the Q and A session. In fact, you may just have seen Therese in a number of popular quiz shows on television.

Therese is currently the head of GHD's International Development group, and a Board Director of the International Development Contractors Community (IDCC), which is the peak body representing international development consultants and contractors working with the Australian aid program.

She is also the President and former election candidate (for both federal and local government) with the Australian Progressives

Disclaimer: Please note that we have brought on Therese as a guest speaker due to her depth of knowledge on this topic and therefore as a non-partisan organisation, we would like attendees to note that this is not an endorsement of the Australian Progressives.
