Workshop Details The workshop will be facilitated by Urbis experts Dr Nathaniel Bavinton and Richard Barry and hosted by NBN Co at their Melbourne office. When: 27 November, 1.00pm-4.00pm Where: NBN Co 727 Collins St, Docklands, Melbourne VIC, 3008 We are beyond the hype of smart cities. Yet, the impact of technology on the public realm has arguably never been greater. Urban planners often describe a knowledge gap on the complexity of place-based technology, while those understanding the powerful capabilities of technology, digital and data solutions have little experience with the key concepts of urbanism or place experience. This workshop will seek to bridge that gap. Urbis’ experts in smart city strategy and planning will guide attendees through an interactive workshop. Participants will apply some tools of design thinking to gain a greater appreciation of the complex issues surrounding technology infrastructure and smart solutions, and the interdisciplinary collaboration required to effectively harness them for the good of the community. Who should attend? - planners who are not familiar with smart cities - smart city practitioners who are not planners or place-managers - curious Summit attendees This workshop is designed to build capacity within the planning and place disciplines to better support digitally enabled and technology-confident communities. Smart communities require many perspectives and skills to be aligned. We recommend registering multiple representatives from your council or organisation to ensure the right mix of skills in the session and the collaborative conditions for change when you return to your day job. Roles that would benefit include: - Strategic and statutory planners - Economic development officers - Place managers - Asset planners and managers - Information technologist - Community development officers About Urbis Urbis is an interdisciplinary cities consultancy striving to make the world more liveable through sustainable social, built and natural environments. Our mission is to connect the brightest people to shape cities and communities for a better future. Our Smart and Sustainable Places team has been specifically created to grapple with the complex challenges of rapid policy and practical convergence of environmental sustainability, emerging technologies and urban transformation towards a net-zero future. https://urbis.com.au/
