Join Distinguished Professor Emerita of History at the ANU - Angela Woolacott, for a thoughtful reflection on one of Australia’s influential political figures, Don Dunstan, on the occasion of the centenary of his birth.

Professor Woollacott is the Distinguished Professor of History at the Australian National University. While much has been written of Dunstan, her book ‘Don Dunstan : The Visionary Politician Who Changed Australia’ is regarded as the definitive biography.

Drawing on her extensive research, she offers fresh insights into Dunstan’s life, leadership, and enduring legacy. Dunstan’s impact on electoral reform, social justice, multiculturalism, Indigenous rights, gender equality, and the arts helped redefine South Australia as a forward-looking and culturally vibrant state.

This centenary event is a moment for us to revisit Dunstan’s legacy and consider how his reforms remain relevant today.
