    Event description

Would you like to build your confidence in the area of language development for students with autism?  Do you want to better understand echolalia?  Have you heard about gestalt language processing but not sure how it applies to your day to day life?

This webinar is appropriate to anyone who is working with students whose speech includes (or used to include) scripts from movies, TV shows, songs, or even just repeats what you say. It also is helpful to people working with students who re-enact gestures and activities (e.g., like leading you by the hand or trying to get you to re-enact a scene they have seen on YouTube). The techniques we cover are appropriate for all ages.

    Dates:

    • 27 March 2024 - 7:30-9:00 pm

    Learning Objectives

    • Notice signs that someone might be a gestalt language processor
    • Advocate for why echolalia and repeating language is important and should be encouraged
    • Describe the different stages of echolalia / gestalt language processing
    • Know at least 3 techniques to try with students showing this type of language learning style
