Autism in the Classroom
Event description
Rebecca Thomas has 11 years of experience as a teacher and psychologist working with children in childcare, kindergarten and school settings. Rebecca understands the different environments teachers work in and provides strategies that can be implemented in a variety of settings to support children who present with Autism.Â
This professional development will be beneficial for anyone working with children in the education environment including childcare, kindergarten, primary and high schools. It will also benefit mental health practitioners working collaboratively with schools, children, and adolescents.
The program explores the different ways children present with autism, and things to look for and think about when providing education to children in the classroom. Children who are diagnosed with autism all present in very difficult ways. This means that some children might be struggling in the classroom but withdraw and their difficulties go unnoticed. This workshop will outline traits and triggers that individuals with autism might present with and ways that teachers can adapt their communication in the classroom to assist children to self-regulate and find their place of belonging.
Join this professional development! Learn how to spot the signs of autism in the educational environment and discover a range of strategies that can be implemented to increase children's sense of belonging in the classroom leading to positive behaviour change.
