Event description

Turn your summer garden remnants into rich soil for spring.

If you've been

- pondering biodynamics but aren't sure where to start
- wanting to make better use of your garden waste, have a true impact on the earth AND have the best start for your spring garden
- wanting to see a range of examples of how composting REALLY works, with some step-by-step guidelines to help you navigate it in your garden.
- wondering what it feels like to have a coach on your shoulder and a person to ask any questions that pop up....

Autumn. It's a wonderful time to do all of this. 'Autumn Composting' with Katrina Wolff from Blue Borage is your chance to have some fun making soil, explore a new method and find out how simple and easy this rewarding and satisfying method is. You may think of composting as getting hands in soil, but really, it's more about handling the green weeds, the dried leaves, the sticks, the tomato vines - the raw materials that later become soil. When Autumn arrives, I like to think of composting as creating a blanket that warms the soil. We are pulling out our woollen clothing, hats and scarves - let's give the garden the equivalent, with hot compost piles.

This is a chance to gather up all your summer garden goodness and build soil to gently rest through the winter, ready for using in your spring garden

A little about Katrina: Full time compost coach and 'Soilpreneur' helping people put composting at the heart of their gardening, whether it's home, work, school or a community space.

What you get:

Two online courses to work through independently:

1) Hot Composting

2) Basic Biodynamics for the home gardener

You'll also get

Two sets of biodynamic preparations

1) BD500 - the horn manure preparation

2) BD502, 503, 504, 505, 506, 607 - the six compost preparations (made from yarrow, chamomile, stinging nettle, oak bark, dandelion and valerian)

Note: I don't think I can send these outside of New Zealand.

As an additional chance to talk composting live...

I'm starting a scheduled Zoom call to act as 'office hours' - I'll set up a time each week where I will be available on Zoom for Q&A sessions, which may also be weekly celebrations of hot composting around the country. Who knows, it may even become a bit of a hot compost network!

Any recurring questions will get added to the online courses as extra resources.

This package is for you if:

  • you've been pondering trying biodynamics, but aren't sure if you want to join the biodynamic association.
  • you've seen someone else using biodynamic preparations, want to have a go, but don't have anyone close enough to source the preparations for you.
  • you're slightly skeptical and want to try the method for yourself.

This is not for you if:

  • you're looking for someone to come and work with you on your land (I'll be sending the preparations by courier.)
  • you're interested in getting the preparations to store away in a cupboard/drawer/box to use 'some day' (these really should be used by the end of May this year.)
  • you're expecting an instant miracle... biodynamics is often a gentle process.

Dates for the next Zoom Office Hours are 6pm Friday 30th April (Arbor Day). The link to join these Zoom Office Hours will be right here in Humanitix - in the Virtual Event Hub, which is where you'll also access the coupons to register for the online courses.
