Autumn Night Sky 2025
Event description
Earlier sunsets make viewing the evening sky easier thanks to returning to standard time. The longer nights mean we get to see Scorpio descending as we move through Autumn and watch the rising of Aries in the morning sky in anticipation of the winter solstice and Matariki in June.
Our ancestors knew this was the time to prepare for the cold months ahead and stock up with provisions, today we turn on the heat pump and order Dominos delivered. Much of our lives are now disconnected from the move of the stars, however in the planetarium we can take you back to enjoy the wonder sky both the practical and spiritual night sky.
We take you above the cloud deck to see exactly what is above your heads tonight. When you leave the planetarium, you will be able to look up and recognise the Southern Cross and several other significant objects and follow in the ancestors understanding of the heavens.
