Event description
This avalanche rescue course is for winter recreationists who travel in the backcountry.
Students will learn the importance of anticipating and knowing when their group enters avalanche terrain. Instruction will also include:
- Trailhead Checks
- Avalanche Terrain Travel Protocols
- Avalanche Rescue Gear and Techniques
- Companion Rescue Process
- Basic Patient Care of Avalanche Victims
This course may be canceled due to insufficient snow or inadequate enrollment.
All students must have an avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel. An analog or digital (phone app) inclinometer is also important.
The field portion of the course will be run by KPAC staff in the terrain surrounding Arizona Snowbowl.
