Meet your facilitator Chani Grieve

Hi, I'm Chani.

I'm so glad you've found your way here, and I'm delighted to be sharing this retreat with you.

In our crazy, busy lives it can feel so difficult to step away for even a moment, to get some much needed space and perspective.

As Brene Brown says "it takes courage to rest and play in a culture where exhaustion is seen as a status symbol".

My experience is that taking time out, even just a few hours like this, can refresh us in ways we can't even imagine. We connect with ourselves, with what is truly important, and we discover that we have what we need inside us, right here. It's like discovering our own wellspring of energy and inspiration that may have been in hiding for a long time.

The relationship we have with ourselves is the most important, and long-lasting, relationship we will ever have, and it impacts all our other relationships. Cultivating a healthy and loving relationship with ourselves is one of the hardest, yet most rewarding, things we can ever do. Learning to firstly recognise our own fundamental OK-ness, and then learning to rest deeply in that, becomes a reliable source of nourishment that never runs out!

I have had a dedicated meditation practice for over 17 years now, and this aspect of my practice has been the most important re-learning I have done. Building a loving relationship with myself, and trusting my own heart, has been endlessly rewarding, and has allowed me to back myself, follow through on my dreams, and experience more joy and satisfaction in every day life. Although the learning never ends, I can honestly say that this path has become a way of life for me.

I am passionate about supporting people to re-discover their own innate goodness, their inner gold. That's what this retreat is about.

If you feel an internal pull, something inviting you to listen, I encourage you to follow it.

I look forward to sharing this retreat with you.

FAQ's

I've never done a silent retreat before. It makes me nervous.

That's totally understandable! It's an uncommon thing to be in the company of others and not speaking. I was a bit freaked out my first silent retreat too. What I, and many others, have discovered is that not talking is actually a huge relief. It allows us to sink into our own experience without the usual demands of social engagement. We just get to be with ourselves, which is a huge gift. The silence is warm, friendly, and supportive. I encourage you to give it a go!

I don't know if I can sit still for that long. What if I get uncomfortable?

The morning will be divided into a combination of meditation postures - sitting, walking, possibly lying down, and a break for morning tea. There will be plenty of opportunities to refresh your body and attention. You are encouraged to experiment with different postures and you are always welcome to move to find your own comfort.

I'd like to try this, but I'm worried my busy mind will drive me crazy.

This is normal, and to be expected. We will be gently encouraging our attention to the body and other aspects of our experience, and withdrawing our attention from the contents of our thoughts. We're not trying to control our thoughts; we simply let them be there as we pay attention to other things. It's like sinking down into the ocean. The waves can still be going on, but our attention is anchored somewhere deeper and calmer. It can be surprising to discover we have this capacity, and very rewarding.
