Event description

Welcome to Awara Garden, be inspired. Take a guided stroll and connect with local gardeners.

Our senses will delight with new tastes and smells. I'll talk about how we transformed lawn into a productive paradise and forage gardening philosophy and practice.

Enjoy a chat and medicinal garden tea post tour. Take home some seeds and cuttings. Children welcome and free.

Amongst the straight lines and hard surfaces of the city, the wild greenery of our yard offers a place to take a deep breath and remember our place in nature.

Our rental property in Naarm on Wurundjeri Country (Pascoe Vale, Melbourne), once entirely lawn, has been transformed into a forage haven. Providing our household of four with most of our vegetables year-round, there are around 80 types of edible and medicinal plants, including fruits, berries, herbs, teas, bush foods and edible weeds, as well as plants for bees, biodiversity and soil health.

After 6 years the garden mostly grows itself, and we forage in it. Plants are encouraged to self-sow and we build soil with no-dig techniques. The garden also includes DIY grey water, children play spaces, a pond, a nature strip garden and a share box.

We welcome you to our garden.
