Event description

Awareness to Action: Embedding Reconciliation in Schools and Early Learning is a professional learning event designed to support educators in understanding and enacting reconciliation within their education settings.

The session will explore what reconciliation means in the Australian context, grounded in truth-telling, respect, and relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Aboriginal Australians. Participants will gain insight into how reconciliation connects deeply with education, through its power to shape learning environments that foster a sense of belonging, challenge racism and discrimination, and foster understanding from the early years onwards.

The event will unpack the role of Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) in creating a framework for change within schools and early learning services. Educators will explore how RAPs can move beyond symbolic gestures to support structural and systemic transformation.

Through practical examples, case studies, and guided reflection, participants will develop the tools to implement meaningful reconciliation actions, including strategies for curriculum integration, community engagement, and site-wide planning. This session empowers educators to take the next step—from awareness to sustained, embedded action.

This session is part one (1) of our three (3) part series. Sessions have been developed to be stand alone or to be accessed as a series.
